Social Engineers

One thing that really irks me is politicians, particularly Democrats, who take it upon themselves to "fix" people's behaviors through government edict.  They do this by passing laws that aim to raise the cost of or regulate out of existence anything that they find undesirable.  This is what is known as "social engineering."

Here's the thing.  Real engineers are people who solve problems.  Social "engineers" do not.  They only create new problems, which is why I have a beef with people, again usually Democrats, who view their quest to modify society's norms and behaviors to try and fit their ideals as some great crusade.

Finally, before anyone says anything, I know that engineers are not perfect, and a few have made mistakes that led to their projects ending in disaster.  However, social "engineers" have a much worse track record for failure.  In conclusion, changing the landscape using math and science can raise the standard of living.  Trying to change people using government force only raises egos.
